FROZEN MEAT TRADE
MR ESTILL ON LOADING. - Press Association, DUNEDIN, March 13. Mr J. S. Estill, Commercial Superintendent of the Pbrt of London Authority, addressed the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon on tho subject of trade with London. In the course of the address he referred to the condition of loading frozen meat at New Zealand ports. He said meat was just as likely to get damaged in the loading as in the unloading, and he thought people should look into the whole question of loading at this end. At several ports in New Zealand meat and other produce had to be barged to ships in roadsteads and canvas slings were used to lift the meat from tho barges to the steamer. While the London authorities were using electric 1 elevators aiid endless land conveyors to discharge meat in Loudon the New Zealand au-thorities-'-were using, in many cases, old-fashioned slings which had been practically discarded in London. Mr Estill also mentioned that mouthers of the London Authority received no salary or fees, the revenue going towards improving tb© facilities Of the port.
