WAIMATE LAND BALLOT
LIST OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS. Press Association. • TIMARU, March 12. There was a good deal of interest displayed in the ballot at Waimate today for two Crown settlements —Tara, 3623 acres of second-class land in eight sections, and Lansdown, 2070 acres of first-class in nine sections. For the Tara lands there were ninety-eight applicants, sixty going in for one lot; and for Lansdown seventy-six. Most of the sections fell to South Canterbury and Oamaru people, one to Leeston and one to Mosgiel being the farthest away. Following are the results of the ballot (number of applicants being given in parentheses) : Tara Estate. No. 1—353 acres, half-yearly rental, £35 15s (11), J. Morrison, Albury. No. 2—150 acres, £B4 16s 8d (8), Jessie Tresize, Morven. No. 3—427 acres, £B2 16s 6d (16), Walter Maslin, Geraldine. No. 4—398 acres, £l2 (27), H. J. Arthur, Leeston. No. 5—593 acres, £147 (33), Sarah Shine, Oamaru. No. 6 —468 acres, £IOO 16s (41), C. S. Price, Waimate. No. 7—520 acres, £llO 18s ,6d (60), Lilian Hampton, Douglas Settlement. No. 8 —412 acres, £74 5s (11), James Rooney, Waimate. Lansdown Settlement. No, 1 —206 acres, half-yearly rental £6B 17s (3), A. B. Topp, Oamaru. No. 2—211 acres, £66 3s (4), R. Creeser, Waimate.
