There was a good deal of interest displayed in the ballot at Waimate today for two Crown settlements —Tara, 3623 acres of second-class land in eight sections, and Lansdown, 2070 acres of first-class in nine sections. For the Tara lands there were ninety-eight applicants, sixty going in for one lot; and for Lansdown seventy-six. Most of the sections fell to South Canterbury and Oamaru people, one to Leeston and one to Mosgiel being the farthest away.
