PUBLIC GALLERIES CLOSED. LONDON, March 11. The National Portrait, the Tate, and the Hampton Court galleries have been closed. The State apartments at Windsor and the Guildhall have also been closed owing to tie suffragette outrage. POLICEMAN THRASHED. ATTEMPTED ARSON. LONDON, March 11. Mrs Gibbs, a Quakeress, has been fined £lO, or two* months’ imprisonment, for thrashing a policeman with a dog whip after Mrs Pankhurst’s incarceration in Holloway. Suffragettes, using petroleum, set fire to the woodwork of Park House at Edghastcn. Flames hurst out, but the damage was slight. STACKS BURNED ON FARM. LONDON, March 11. Suffragettes burned stacks on the Nottingham Corporation sewage farm. Several thousand pounds’ worth of damage was done. Holyrood, Kensington, - and Kew Palaces, the Albert Memorial Chapel, and tlie Royal stables at Windsor have also been closed, and art students are excluded from the National Gallery. American and other visitors are indignant at being unable to see the art treasures. Mr McKenna, Home Secretary, at question time in the House of Commons, invited suggestions for dealing with the’suffragettes, and elicited cries of “Deport them to South Africa.”
