ST. PATRICK’S DAY

LOCAL CELEBRATIONS. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are to be held at Newtown Park on Tuesday next, and extensive preparations have been made by an energetic committee of some fifty members who have now completed their programme. A procession is to he formed in Boulcott street and will leave there at 10 o’clock, headed by the Wellington City Band. Upon arrival at Newtown Park, the remainder of the morning will be devoted to children’s sports. The principal events will he got off during the afternoon. Wrestling (collar and elbow) figures on the programme. This event will be judged by Lieutenant C. J. Duffy. The Irish Jig (two classes), which is always a popular item,, will he judged by Mr J. D. McPhee. A baby show up to the age of eighteen months will bo judged at 4 o’clock by Dr Platts Mills. During the afternoon, at 3.30, Sir J. Q. Ward will deliver an address. In the evening there will be one of the most attractive programmes yet presented to the public. The star item is that of Paul Dufault, the eminent tenor, assisted by Miss Bindley and Ernest Toy. In addition there will be be artists from Wellington, Hawera, Dunedin, Auckland and Masterton. Seats can now be booked at the Dresden.
