ROWING
WELLINGTON REGATTA. In addition to the entries for the Wellington Regatta, on Saturday next, which have already been published, the secretary (Mr B. A. Marris) reports having also received the following:—Maiden Double Sculls, Star No. 2 (making now eight entries); Junior Fours, Wellington (now five entries). It is understood that the recentlyformed Naval Bdating Club has -also entered a crew for the Maiden Fours. This club has just become affiliated to the Amateur Rowing Association, and all local enthusiasts will be glad to see another local club in the field.
I Local oarsmen are taking full advantage of the perfect weather lately to put the finishing touches to their training. The Star crews seem especially energetic. On Tuesday afternoon their senior and maiden fours had a trial spin over a mile, the latter finishing about a length and a half behind the Seniors, a Very creditable performance considering that the seniors were rowing iii a ‘mc'st” boat. Last evening the rowing sheds Were a scefl© of great activity, and it seemed that every regatta crew was having a trial over its distance.
All visiting 'competitors that are able will arrive here to-morrow, and will doubtless endeavour to have a few trial spins before Saturday. The fact that all the champion crews of the Dominion are competing lends n particular interest to the regatta to local enthusiasts, and the public will be pleased to note the big fields competing in the junior, and especially in the maiden events.
