THE NEW DOMAIN

“WILLIAMS PARK” LETTER OF THANKS TO BENEFACTRESS. Tho necessary deeds are now being prepared to enable the city of Wellington to take over tho fine domain of 050 acres at Day’s Bay which it has been decided to purchase for the sum of £14,000, made up of public subscriptions and municipal and Government grants. Most prominent among tho private benefactors of tho scheme was Mrs W. K. Williams, who presented £IOOO to tho fund at tho commencement of the movement, and added A'soo during tho present week. In honour of her generous public spirit, tho council has resolved that the reserve shall be known as “Williams Park.” A copy of tho following resolution of tho council was forwarded to Mrs Williams by tho town clerk (Mr J. RRainier) yesterday morning;— “That this council place on record its deep .sense of tho public spirit jianifestpd by Mrs W. It. Williams in contributing a sum of £ISOO towards tho fund for tho purchase of tho Day’s Bay grounds for public purposes, and in recognition of her generosity hereby resolves that tho reserve shall henceforth be known as Williams Park.”

The council wore unanimous in their decision to purchase the ground, which will no doubt prove an increasingly valuable asset. Tho Mayor (Mr J. P, Luke) states that under tho agreement the whole of tho land abutting on the main Day’s Bay road between Ferry road and Moana road will bo free from any buildings, and all the frontage line will bo clear except for two access

roads to houses on private property. A safeguard is provided against tho erection of any houses along the whole approach. The live - sections on Pitoitoi road and tho section fronting Kotari road will afford the public direct access to charming retreats, and the whole frontage will present a handsome appearance.
