A NEW TRIAL
MURDER OF SERGEANT HICKEY. By Telegraph—Frees Association—Copyrighi (Received December 19, 0,15 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 19. Tho High Court has granted Thomas Edwin Brown a now trial in connection with the shooting of PoliceSergeant Hickey, the chief ground being that tho judge at the trial of the case was in error in telling tho jury that they were not likely to find any other verdict than one of guilty or not guilty. [Tho trial of Thomas Edwin Brown, on a charge of murdering Police-Ser-geant Hickey on May Ist last, concluded on July 31st. Brown was found guilty, with a recommendation to mercy, on the ground of his apparently eccentric state of mind. The Jcath sentence was formally passed.]
