MEETINGS ELSEWHERE
DUNEDIN MEN SAID TO FAVOUR RETURN TO WORK. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states that a meeting of the local branch of tho Seamen’s Union was held yesterday, when the proposals of the shipowners governing tho working conditions at present under discussion in Wellington wore submitted for approval. These proposals, it was stated, provided for the resumption of employment on certain terms which do not involve a material departure from the existing agreement, which., however, is to be registered under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act. The meeting lasted about half an hour, and those present decided by ion overwhelming majority (it is said bv 173 votes to 4 to return to work The meeting closed with cheers. A largely attended meeting of the Auckland branch of the Seametti’s Union was held yesterday afternoon, says another Press Association telegram, for tho purpose of agreeing to or rejecting the final conclusions of tho shipowners. Tho issue before tho meeting were earnestly discussed at considerable length, and it is understood the resolution s carried will go a long way towards * a settlement of the differences between the seamen and shipowners. The resolutions were telegraphed to Wellington, and many Auckland seamen predicted that a Dominion settlement would bo announced to-day
