AVIATOR IN FOG

A PERILOUS JOURNEY. By Telegraph —Press Association. —Copyright (Times—Sydney "San" Special Oablea.» LONDON, December 17. Salmet, the aviator, accompanied by Mrs Assheton Harbord, left Folkestone on Sunday morning bn a trip across the Channel. A stiff south-wester was blowing, and they ran into fog banks. Losing the sense of direction be descended nearer the water, and discovered from a fishing smack that ho was being blown at right angles to the proper course. After correcting the direction Salmet found ho was making little headway, and had only a tiny amount of petrol left. He decided to descend to the water near a passing steamer. Through a break in the fog he saw a ship and tried vainly to reach it. Then a shadow loomed up in the south, and ho headed for it and landed at Dieppe, which he thought was Boulogne.
