MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

At a special meeting of the Miramar Borough Council last evening, at which the Mayor (Mr F. Townsend) presided, the by-laws dealing with buildings, water supply, and drainage were confirmed. The ordinary meeting was then held. On behalf of the {Salvation Army Sunday school, Mr W. G- Page made application to be allowed to hold a picnic in the'Seatoun Park on New Year’s Day.—Permission was granted. Regarding the council’s letter to the Wellington Harbour Board with reference to a lot of writing of on indecent character on the walls of the board’s shelter shed at Seatoun wharf, the latter body in their reply stated that tho wharfinger had been instructed to send out a man to obliterate the writing, and the board’s engineer would, when the shed required repainting, have the walls Bonded so as to make writing thereon more difficult., As the shed is not at present of much use cither to tho public or the board, since the ferry boats do not call at the wharf, the board suggested as an alternative the temporary closing of the shed, and that the council keep it in order for the time . being. Councillor Tracey moved that the Harbour Board be thanked, and that the suggestion as to keeping the shed in order bo accepted. —This was carried. The Wellington Gas Company forwarded a cheque for £22 9s 7d in payment of half cost of tree-planting and fencing in King’s road, Miramar. A deputation was received from a number of ratepayers asking the council to form and metal Ngaio street and n portion of Seatoun Heights road and the junction of Ngaio street and Seatoun Heights road.—Tho borough engineer was instructed to carry out all necessary work. Tho borough engineer reported that the expenditure in wages for four weeks ended December 9th amounted to £lOl 8s 9d. During tho month sixteen connections were made with tho water-mains, bringing the total number of theso to 243, and twenty-two permits to connect with the mains were issued, making a total of 102. Tho inspection fees were £7 10s and license fees £3 4s. Two building permits were issued of a total value of £l4O. The works in hand at present are tho Tio Tio road sewer and the. fire brigade station. It was decided that the conveniences at Seatoun Park and at the Town Hall be connected with the sewerage mains. It was also dec ded that access to the Seatoun Park be given at the southwest corner’of the park, and that the Karaka Bay ’bus service bo maintained during the Christinas holidays i Accounts amounting to £3/2 8s Id were passed for payment.
