LONDON, August 3.
Nine banks in Yorkshire have subscribed two millions Stirling to enable the Yorkshire Penny Bank to become a company by capital instead of a company by guarantee. A second group of banks, including the Bank of England, will give individual guarantees. This step has been taken owing to the fact that the anxiety occasioned by the Birkbeck Bank suspension adversely affected the Penny Bank.
