MR ERNEST PARKES

A FAREWELL AND A PRESENTATION.

Last night the Engineers’ Hall held a very largo garnering, the occasion being a farewell to Air Ernest Parkes by members of tne Ernest Parkes concert committee. The hall was nicely decorated, the colour scheme being in crimson and green. Tlio hall was arranged witn palms and pot plants, and the tables dotted about were made beautiluk with their large baskets, of chrysanthemums and asparagus iern.' The success of the evening was due to ties indefatigable efforts 'of Mrs Coull, Mrs'E. J. Hill,Airs 'tV. Eraser and Mrs Sutcliffe, Mr Eraser (treasurer; and Mr Dykes (secretary;. An enjoyable musical programme was gone through, items being contributed bv Mr E. J. Hill, -Mr Parkes, -Miss Ludwig, Madame Groomo, Miss Watkins, Mr Carr, Mr Orr, and a recitation by Miss Hardiiigc-Maltby. .1 Alter supper -Mr E. J. Hill (chairman of tha committee) made ' a presentation to Mr Parkes. He said that on behalf of the committee representing the citizens of Wellington he lintl very much pleasure in presenting Mr I’arkes -with a token of their esteem and regard. It represented a sum of AIU3, being the net result of the concert lately held. It established a record for complimentary concerts in Wellington. That Mr Parkes fully deserved the honour they 'all agreed. He had been kind and sympathetic in helping charities and other objects whenever called upon. They were all sorry he was going away, but felt it was for his good. They hoped after ho had had the training he intended to have ho would long bo spared to lift up his glorious voice in song. Mr Parkes in‘a feeling speech expressed his .sincere thanks. Mrs Coull was wearing a white charincuso with steel trimmings and overdress of black ehiflon; Mrs E. .T, Hill, black lace over oliarmcuso; Mrs W. Fraser, black satin charmouso with garniture of gold embroidery; Mrs Sutcliffe, old rose satin relieved with cream.
