THE SCOTTISH COMMISSIONERS

MR KEITH. ON LINCOLN COLLEGE. A FLATTERING OPINION. Last Friday the Scottish, agricultural commissioners, Messrs Dunlop and Keith, visited Lincoln College, and were gratihea witji wmtt fjiey saw of i\ew Zealand's only agricultural college. Speaking of the institution to a “Dress'' reporter on. his return to Christchurch Mi* Jas. Keith said: "It is different from most agricultural colleges in Scotland, in that it has such a large farm around it, whereas most institutions of the kind in Scotland are more academical. There are, of course, colleges of the same kind in England with good big farms, but, although some may be larger, yet your , college compares very favourably with 1 any I have seen either in Great Britain, Canada, or Australia. The stock on it are good, -especially the draught horses and the sheep, and I also noticed that the students'Jiad roomy studies, practically to themselves, which is a very great improvement on the common rooms usual m most institutions of tho kind. The only criticism I can make about the place is the- small number of students there. I understand that the accommodation is taxed to tho limit, but I should have thought that there would have been at least three times the number from a country like this. '* In the course of an interview given to a "Lyttelton Times" representative Mr.- Keith said: "The students are given plenty of practical training and their accommodation in the main building is exceptionally fine. "Ho regretted that the rain had prevented a more detailed im spection of the institution, as the farming conditions of New Zealand very nearly approximated those in Scotland, while in Australia they were almost en- . tirely different.
