The Dean, of Newcastle, in an address at the Anglican Cathedral on "Socialism/'' declared: • "I am sorry to say tho Church has not done her duty to the bodies as well as to the souls of those to whom she should minister. If the Church is going to stand on one side, wrapped in antique respectability, living iti the past, forgetful of the present, and profoundly indifferent to the future, without doubt she will cease to be a power, and in time will become non-existent."
