At the recent great match between England anti Scotland, Richard Jordan and George .Tewitt, the Sheffield crack, met on the third day of play, and the following ending, said to have been considered by the experts present the finest bit of play in the match, occurred in one of their games : Black (Jewitt).

The problem wo published for "beginners” in. last Saturday's issue of the "Times” has brought in, at time of writing, quite a. number of solutions from draughts players, and one of those received is from a young lady enthusiast of the game. Tho position is as follows :—Block men 3. 8. 13, Kings 1, 10. Ayhite men: 24, 20, Kings 2, 12. White to play. What result? The best solution, with the winner's name, will be published next Saturday. Two experts of the game will act as adjudicators.
