In connection with the charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States Customs brought against Charles R. Heike, treasurer of the Sugar Trust, Oliver Spitder, ex-dock superintendent of the trust (whom President Taft pardoned and released from prison), testified that his own confession of the part he took in the frauds had been delayed until now because he did not wish to involve one of the Havemeyers (sugar refiners), who is now dead.
