DURBAN, May 26. : General Lord Methuen, Governor of Natal, in a speech at Pietermaritzburg, advocated improved defences for Durban) which he described as tho great port of the future. It required two or three guns powerful enough to keep off cruisers, and tho installation of searchlights for the detection of smaller craft.
Lord Methuen also advocated the establishment of a military college for South Africa.
