FIRE POLICE BALL
The central fire brigade station is not a picturesque building from the outside, and last night it did not seem any more attractive limit usual 'until the doors were opened. Then there burst , the astonished eyes of the visitor n veritable fairyland. Tho occasion was the Fire Brigade and lire 1 once ball. Thu engines, with their brave array ol rubber hose, .shining brass-work and led paint, wero gone, and in their p ace feathery fronds ol terns cast cooi shadows over tho well idled . tables. Strings of coloured electric lights were festooni-d from the coiling, and glistened among the fronds ol the tree ferns. A large electric light m the centre of tho room was shaded by a handsome red silk shade. Dancing was held in the social hall, where the ovor-pppuliu' buutting was called into requisition to covei the bareness of tho wall, and glam bal.s of various colours were festooned ami latticed across the ceiling. . . aM rrt UMJrieu wore a trock ot pale bUu oharmoiiKo. with a garniture of pearls. Mrs Morion was in heliotrope satin. Airs Cohen wove mauve silk. Airs O’Shea was in cream lace over white satin. ... , . , Alia Luke- was in brown silk, trimmed with fuellings of the same material. Alts Doyle wore black silk, with vest of cream lacc. Airs Asher wore black silk, with touches of scarlet velvet on tho bodice. Aliss Dunn wore pink silk, trimmed with Alaltese lacc. \raongsl these present were Miss AleBean, Mrs and Miss Ballinger, Alls Tail, Mrs lauchlan, Mrs Keynotes, Mrs McLean.' Alias Spry. Airs Godwin. M?'« Browne, Airs Walker, and Miss Hildreth; Air Wilford, Air Palmer, Mr Morton, Mr Ballinger, Mr Oshea, Mr J. lb Luke, Mr Cohen, Air Trevor, and Air Fletcher were also present. During the evening song's wore contributed by Messrs Bead and Aloroditn. The joint secretaries, Messrs Jl. Tiut aud Von Rerulwilz, grout credit for Hie success ol“ the function.
