BIG POSTAL SCHEME
COMING REOKGANISATION WHAT THE COMMONWEALTH GOVERNMENT WILL DO. UNIFORM RATES PROMISED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. . MELBOURNE, February 18.
The Federal Postmaster-General, Sir John Quick, speaking at Bendigo, outlined a comprehensive scheme of postal reorganisation. Development of the central and State administrations would, he said, be strengthened, and uniform rates imposed throughout the Commonwealth —including penny postage in each State on the adoption of the financial agreement, and penny postage generally when business develops sufficiently. During tho next three years it was proposed to, spend £2,337,000 on telephonic and telegraphic extensions and reconstruction. High-power wireless stations would bo established at Sydney and Fremantle, and the system gradually extended to other parts cf the Commonwealth and Papua, as experience justified. The Postmaster-General added that the Government programme included an All-Red Pacific and Atlantic ccble extension. As an additional link, he hoped to maintain the All-Red • mail service by the Vancouver route.
