TRAMWAYMEN'S CONFERENCE
. . OHRISTCH URCH, February 17.', At the Tramways Employees' Conference Messr« Taylor, Russell and. Ell, M.P.'s, and Mr Barr, M.L.C., were present ' and heard a : discussion on a remit from Wellington that the Government be asked to reintroduce the . Tramways . Amendment Bill with a view to,the insertion of new clauses likely to:benefit tramway employees and providing for examination of motormen, regulation of' speed stops, and equipment. The members- of Parliament expressed sympathy with the object of "the conference, and promised their cordial support in an 'endeavourr to place on the 'statute book some of the provisions desired. by the. conference. - A remit from Ghristohairch regarding railway travelling concessions, to -tramway employees was agreed , to. Wellington's -remit to- the effect that where appeals aire ignored by tramway authorities they be referred to the executive of the federation was agreed to by 21 to 20. ' ■•■:■■■
A Chxistchnircih remit providing for interchange of- membership between unions in the Dominion was defeated. It was decoded to ask, the Government not to permit insurance companies to shift their responsibilities on to the State, as in the Baxter oaae. .
