HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. i At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board held yesterday Mr J. P. Luke presided. The report of the ■ acting-matron showed that during January there were two patients admitted ; to , the Otaki Sanatorium and two discharged. At present there were fifteen Alien and nine women in the institution. Nino patients were admitted to the Otaki Hospital and eight discharged. There wore now twelve patients undergoing treatment. Patients’ fees collected at tho sanatorium amounted to £O6 13s, and at the hospital £lO 12s. In addition a donation of £l, was received from Father, De .Lack.

The chairman reported that everything was going on satisfactorily at the hospital. The matron (Miss K. M. Sealyl was. on leave, and her place had been temporarily taken by Sister ‘O. M. Catley, who had consented to come over from Xelson during the absence of the matron. The new sanitary system was working most satisfactorily and there had been no recurrence of the old trouble. It, was absolutely essential for hospitals to be provided with , an efficient . sanitary system. The garden was looking exceptionally well, and it was -hoped that vegetables and subsequently fruit would be grown in sufficient quantities to supply the. other institutions which would come under the new board. The area under cultivation could be extended considerably. Provision would have to be made in next year's estimates for painting all the buildings both at the sanatorium and hospital. _ The financial statement showed the bank balance, to be £2796 13s 9d, and there is a subsidy due from the Government amounting to £2296. - Accounts amounting to £2098 were passed for payment. including an amount of £IOOO- This was the. first instalment for the. erection of the fever hosnital.
