' It is suggested that the uncharted rock which the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Papauui came to griet on off tho north, of Tasmania be. named Papanui rock. It- has been definitely located by C-iptain Clark, of theLaunceston Marine Board's tug. It is a long rook caxj-ying 10ft of water at low water, with comparatively deep soundings all round. It is four and a quarter miles from Waterhouso Island. The Tasmanian Government has been asked to urge that tho Hydrograplue Department bo notified of the rock, so as to have it included in charts, COMMAND OF T/HE MAORI. ' Following on the announcement in yesterday's ''Times" of . the appointment of Captain T. W. Hunter, of the Union Company's turbine btcamer Maori to the position, of pilot at Lyttelton, speculation was already rife yesterday among the seafaring community as to who would succeed to the command of tho Maori. Some weeks will probably elanso before Captain Hunter's successor will be appointed, , but there is a considerable amount of interest attached to tho position of master of the fine turbine boat which has proved such a splendid connecting link between the.' North and South Islands. Tie appointments and transfers of masters are all made at the head, office of the Union Company.' It is generally believed that tho selection will fall upon one of the, younger masters at present in charge of a coastal passenger vessel in the company's service, who has had considerable experience on- lines similar to that of Captain Hunter. _ OVERSEA VESSELS. faTBAMERS.
