The steamer Eipplo arrived at Lyttelton' this'morning from the Chatham Is-' lands. Captain AUsop. reported that in aeoordanco . with arrangement made by tho Marine Department with the owners of the Ripple,- he made?'an exhaustive and thorough search.for,possible tracesof '.castaways ;or -wreckage' .from the -missing fishing steamer Duco. " ■'■ The Ripple- - cruised round all the main islands, as well as outlying Islands, reefs and rocks, including "The Sisters" and the "Portyfours," but absolutely no trace of any castaways or wreckage of any kind was found. Captain AUsop. stated that since his pre-j vious visit to the ChathamV two or three packages of timber which the Duco was ■carrying for making fishing crates had been washed ashoro on the west side of | the.',main. island..' ... ....... ....;
