north Island championship TOURNEY. OPENS THIS MORNING. I Bright and early this morning play will begin in tho Northern Bowling Association's championship tournament, for which a record entry of both rinks and pairs has been received. Tho 260 odd players, with the exception of those who have to catch the 8.20 train for the Hutt green, are requested'to assemble at the Wellington Club's green in Wordsworth street at 8.45 sharp, when they will' bo photographed and tho official opening ceremony performed by the president of tho association, Colonel Collins, 1.5.0. Immediately afterwards, special trams will leave to convey players to the various other greens to bo used, and it is hoped to have the tournament in full swing shortly after 9.15 o'clock.

To-day, to-morrow, and "Wednesday will bo occupied with tho qualifying rounds in the rink matches, and thepairs will bo started on Thursday. Final detailed arrangements in connection with the tourney were made at a mooting at tho Wellington Club's pavilion on Saturday night, when a representative of nearly every competing club was present. Colonel Collins presided. It was decided that tho skips playing on each green should form a Match Committee for their particular section, three to be a quorum. Umpires for each section wore also appointed. It was agreed that, if i>"sihle, tho whole of the pro-

liminary rounds in the pairs matches shall be got through on _ Thursday, and that anv tics in the rink matches shall bo played off on Friday morning. This was done to enable the rink finals to be finished by Friday evening to moot the convenience of players wishing to go South to the Dunedin tournament. The finals in the pairs were fixed for Saturday. Owing to the illness of its skip a Fcilding rink has withdrawn from the tourney. Each rink drawn to meet it in that section will, therefore, be given a byo. On Wednesday evening, at the Wellington Club’s pavilion, a general meeting of bowlers - will be held to discuss various matters of interest to folio wera of the game. .
