PRIZE-GIVING.

ST. PATRICK'S COLLEGE. COMMENCEMENT OF CHIUSTMAS VACATION. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A large number of parents and friends of the boys of St. Patrick's College gathered fait evening to witness the. prize-giving ceremony which marked the end of another school year. . The company was a -distinguished one, there being present his Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunket), who was accompanied by Mr H. C. Waterfield (private secretary), Archbishop Redwood, the Hon. R." A. Louglman, M.L.C., Colonel It, J. Collins, 1.5.0., the liev. Dr Kennedy (rector of the college), the Rev. Father Keogh (late rector), Archdeacon Devoy, Dean Reguault, the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott, Dr P. F. McEvcdy, Dr Mackin, and Mr J. W. Joynt, M.A. (registrar of the New Zealand University). Apologies for absence were received from Sir Joseph Ward, the lions. Dr Findlay, G. Fowlds and J. A. Millar and others. A GOOD YEAR. The rector (Rev. Dr Kennedy) extended a heart'v welcome on behalf of the college to "his Excellency, and thanked him for the interest he had taken in education, and in the college particularly. (Applause.) An excellent musical programme was N submitted, especially pleasing being the selections '-Lucia di Lammermoor" (Donizetti) and "Loin du Bal" (Gillet), and a Sicilian Dance (Franz von Blon), rendered with considerable skill by the collrj'e orchestra, under the baton of Mr F. Johnstone. The college choirsang a.counle of choruses, and Mr F. Johnstone plaved two 'cello solos, 1 }; j merei" ("Schumann) find "Tarantelie (Popper).
