MASTERTON NOTES
7ROIC OUR OWN CORRSSPONBRNT. MASTERTON, July 13. A deputation from the Masterton Borough Council waited upon the Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council to-day, with reference to the proposed improvement of the northern approach. After discussion it was resolved that the committee agree, subject to the council's approval, to macadamise the roadway from the borough bridge to the northern termination of the work, also to have the side walks kerbed and paved throughout. At the council meeting in the afternoon a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce attended in support of a resolution, by the Chamber favouring only one bridge instead of two for the approach. The chairman of the County Council informed the deputation that the whole matter had been amicably settled between the two councils. He hoped the town would soon have an approach which would be a credit to it. The Finance Committee’s report was adopted by the council without dissent, and the clerk was instructed to take preliminary steps towards proceeding *with the work. The financial needs of the Master ton Technical School formed the subject 'of a deputation from the school managers to the Masterton County’ Council this afternoon. It was decided to place .£25 on the * estimates for next year for a technical school grant, the money to be ear-marked for classes specially benefiting the agricultural, and pastoral industry. The important Opaki-Lansdowne highpressure water scheme is being rapidly pushed on. Mr G. Lalng-Meason, engineer for the scheme, reported to the Countr Council to-day that good progress had been made with the work.
Frances Ellen, daughter of Mrs M. A. Andrew, died this evening after a long illness. Deceased was only twenty-two years of age.
