ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

WELLINGTON CENTRE. MEDALLIONS AND CERTIFICATES Tho distribution of awards made by the St. John Ambulance Association will take place in tho Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Friday evening. During the year much instruction was given in first aid and home nurs ing, the number of students attending the various classes being 506. There wore 36 classes held throughout the centre. These were attended by 3GG men and 1-10 women, the subsequent examinations being passed by 264 men and by 85 women. Four of the classes, however, did not go to examination.

Besides Wellington, elasses were Held in Feilding, Hastings, Hawera, Levin, Lower Hutt, Blenheim, Clareville, Masterton, ISapier,- Palmerston North, and Petone. The thanks of the association are due to members of the medical profession for tho invariable oare and interest taken in the classes.

It is with pleasure that acknowledgment must be made (states the report) of a bequest of £3OO from the late Mr W. It. E. Brown. The bequest from the late Mr T, M. McMenamen was acknowledged in tho previous report. Both bequests were for the fund for nursing the sick poor. Ambulance Saturday has now established itself as an institution of tho association, and will prove of great assistance in its work. The ladies again deserve the best thanks of the association for their splendid services in collecting. Tho ambulance day held at the close of the year resulted in a total collection of £303 9s 9d. This was ’£26 8s 5d less than collected the previous year, but was a satisfactory achievement considering the financial and weather conditions. AWARDS FOR 1908.
