"A POLICEMAN'S LIFE"
"Onlooker]' writes under yesterday's date: I notice with regret the attack made upon a constable in your issuo of this (Tuesday) morning. Mr McMenajmin is reported as saying that this man refused to help "him carry a mattrass and "ho would like to heve had ten minutes with him outside.": Now, eir, there arc two eides to this case. This constable was on duty from 5 o'clock in the morning till Bat night. He bad had nothing except a sandwich to eat all day and ho came in with his boots Off utterly tired out. Mr MoMcnamin asked him to help with a mattrass and lie did. After that he . walked into the dining-room and was just about to sit down in contemplation of. a good food when Mr McMenamin came and asked Him .to help.' with another mattrass. He said h© would com© directly after tea, and pointed out that there were several others there who had had tea an hour before. Then the row started!
