DANNEYIEKE JOCKEY CLUB. At a meeting of the committee of the above club the following business was transacted. Mr J. Devonshire’s resignation as a stewaid and member was accepted with regret, and the same recorded in the club's minutes. A bonus of X2 2s was voted towards cost of production of “Turf Register.'' The secretary was instructed to obtain prices from Messrs Marett and Fox, also J. Ames for the supply and working of four totabsators at tho club's next meeting. Messrs N eagle, Roa-ke, and McDermott were appointed a ground oommitteo. Accounts to the value of Jll3 Is 3d were passed for payment. It was decided not to entertain tho double event machine. The secretary was instructed to write Messrs MoVay and Gothard, the Hawke's Bay Country Clubs delegates at the late conference, conveying the committee’s beat thanks fer their services. Mr Alex. Paul's resignation as a member was accepted with regret. The secretary presented a programme for the club's next annual meeting, which was unanimously adopted as read, by which the stakes « u be increased from aiUuO to JiIGOO, and the Danucvirke Cup raised from JduU to J23jO. RACING AT ASHBURTON. Sir George Payne did not have to wait long for a return of part of tho purchase money expended on the Winter Cup winner Idealist. His first appearance in the colours of his owner was in the Ashburton Cup, nine furlongs, which brought out a field of ten. Hidden by L. G. King, Idealist was made favourite and won easily by two lengths in the good time of Irain 59 l-ssec. A good race for second place resulted in favour of Gwendoline. Medallist, Idealist’s late stable mate, carried top weight into thi;d place. He ran in the ownership of Messrs Harris and Carleton. Idealist paid tho good price of .£3 IBs for a first favourite. Tho other Karaniu cast-off took part in the Spring Handicap, six f k .dongs! Ingloneuk was a big favourite and won easily by two lengths from T’-emulous. with Ecus third. Ingleneuk (paid £1 12s in a field of nine. English Rose (Merrie England— Fellow . hose), who was owned in this district last season, beat eleven others in the Trial Plate, five furlongs. White Cockade (Finland —Miss Lochiel) beat several more fancied candidates in the Braemar ■ Welter Handicap, seven furlongs. The Hack Handle.p, six furlongs, went ' to Volodin (Stcpniak—Waimate Maid), who was the best backed of twelve runners, and won comfortably. Lecside scored again on the second day and paid a bettor price than on the first day. His successes will bo some consolation to J. W. Taggart for the bad luck experienced with Slow Tom at Riccarton. Consistent form l was also shown by several other performers. Gwendoline and Medallist, the place getters behind Idealist in the Cup, finished first and second in the Tinwald Handicap. Golden Way, runner up in the Hack Handicap, pulled off the Fairfield Handicap. Volodia scored her second win iii tho Farewell Handicap. THE RANQITIKEI MEETING. The acceptances received for the Rangitikei meeting, to, be held on Wednesday and Thursday next, are very satisfactory. The horses engaged include St. Claimer, Mahuta, Hire, and Lady Disdain, winners at Horowhenua. The horses St. Claimer disposed of at Horowhenua were a moderate lot, and he will meet some better class ones in Mahuta and Lord Soult. Toa Tuhi may also be improved by the gallop he had at Horowhenua.- The latter or Mahuta may win tho Flving. If the , eight acceptors for the Willowbank Steeplechase go to the post an interesting race should be ♦witnessed. Honda and Kuranui -shaped well at Marton, and one of the pair named may win. Kaipetipeti may bo good enough to beat the opposition in tho Hack Hurdles. Of the light weights St. Amelia may be best. She ran a good race on the second day at Horowhenua. Eosegrove and Waitapu look a likely pair to provide the winner of the Spring Handicap. There are several unknown quantities engaged in the Maiden. King Post. Koran, and Nordoff may run prominently. Eclair and Needlework are missing from the Steeplechase. The writer has a fancy for Peruvian and Boer. Hiro and Lady Disdain should run well in tho Eangitoto Hack Race. SUCCESS OF A NEW ZEALAND STALLION. At the Victorian Royal Show this month eight horses wc»e shown in the thoroughbred class, viz., Holdon (by Auric), Douster Swivel (by Swiveller), Plumpeoker (by Persimmon). Baurimore (bv Auric), Kingfisher ! (by Trentside), Tom Moore (by Grafton), Little Ben (by Zeno), and Trentbridge (by Phaethon). Plumpeoker was imported from England a few months ago by Messrs C. and HWilson. His dam, Ornis, is by Bend Or, so that on both sides of the house ho is attractively bred. He is. a nice chestnut, but has not yet made up into stallion condition, and together with Little Ben (the only horse shown that was in the ring last year), Tom Moore, and Kingfisher, got put out early. The judges (Messrs J. H. Davis, J. O. Inglis, and R. Henry) did not take long to pick ont the first-prize taker. This was Trentbridge, who was bred in New Zealand. and is now located in the Horsham district. He is a stout, well-put-together brown, showing a good deal of quality, and is altogether a very attractive horse. .'His sire, Phaeton, is a halfbrother, by Trenton, to ManUlicher, and hie dam, Throne, is by Perkin Warbeck 11. from Peggy, by Tradnoer. Second ticket went to Holdon, a dark chestnut, by Auric from Sea Air, by Qrandsire. lie takes somewhat in shape after his relative Aurum. Baurimore, another Auric, was placed third. Mr B. O’Keefe entered Aurora, recently returned from England, and the dual Caulfield winner, Hvmcttus. Aurum has not yet got through his term of quarantine, and could not be shown, while Hymettue, after being led into the ring, was, on the advice of Mr S. O. Wood. V.S.. taken out before the judges started their work. Hy-Ti-ttus was looking well, and would no doubt have gone close to taking first prize, but he unfortunately got down in a rnilw.ov box and somewhat injured his hooks. There was only one entry for the class for mares foaled or in foal, and this was a two-year-old filly, Amarylis, by Preston. Shs had been put in her wrong class, and, though the only mare shown, was not considered good enough for the champion prize. A couple of two-year-old colts. The Brewer (by Wal-

lace from Flash), competed. Both are in C. Quinn’s stable, at Flemington. iaatness was a very nibo yearling, but he has grown leggy, and is somewhat narrow. He was easily beaten for first prize by The Brewer, though this colt had niet with a slight injury to one of his hind legs. Trentbridge secured the champion prize as the beet stallion shown.
