By an error in reporting the proceedings at the Magistrate's Court on the previous day it was stated in our issue of Saturday that Mr James H. Bruce was the defendant in a judgment summons and that an order had been made against him. The fact is that Mr Bruco was the plaintiff in the action, Bruce v. Grey, Nightcaps to Middletnarch. , Mr Alf Lawton, a well-known comedian, who, shortly after hie appearance in Wellington with the “Human Hearts" Company four months age, was stricken by a serious illness, died at the Wellington Hospital yesterday morning. The deceased, who leaves a widow and a three-year-old son, was born in New York, and was forty-eight years of age. Ho was a prominent figure for many years on the, vaudeville stage of Australia and New Zealand. The death is announced by cable message from London of Lord Aldenham, formerly Mr Henry H. Gibbs, and head of the firm of Antony Gibbs" and Co., merchants, of London. The deceased was bom in London in 1819. Ho was a director of the Bank of Hngland for nearly half a century, and was Governor of the hank from 1875 to 1877. For one year, in the nineties, he represented the City of London m the House of Commons, in the Conservative interest. Lord AJdanham’s son and heir is the Hon. A. G. H. Gibbs, who sat in the House of Commons for the City of Loudon from 1893 to 1906, and was re-elected at the last general election, but retired in favour of the Bight Hon. A. J. Balfour.
