ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

A tram conductor named Melville met with a nasty. accident yesterday. While the tram on which ho was engaged was passing the Basin Reserve, Melville, who was changing tho destination-board, received a heavy blow through his head coming in contact with one of the ironpoles in the centre of the track supporting the overhead wires. lie was stunned, and fell backwards on to a seat in tho car. After temporary treatment at a surgery, Melville was taken to the hospital. The wound is not considered to be dangerous. A youth named Frank Taylor, about fifteen years of age, fell down a lift—a distance of about sixty feet —at the ■Wellington Woodware Company’s premises yesterday. In addition to breaking one of his legs, ho also injured one of his arms rather severely. The sufferer was taken to tho hospital for treatment.
