Hie scores were as follows : ■ Out—s, 3,4, 5,4, 5. 4,4, 3—37. In—s, 6,5, 3, 4, 5,3, 4, 4—39. His scores at the last two holes were the result of long puts. On each occasion he was about two yards from the hole with his third shot, and succeeded in holing the ball in the fourth. Some good play was shown in the third round of the Amateur Championship of New Zealand, and there were several surprises. A Duncan almost beat H. B. Watson pointless, , winning with 9 up. and Bto play. K. Duucan also had a big margin over C. Bennett, being 7 up and 6 to play. H. E. Wright had an easy victory over B. Knight, his score being 5 up and 3 to play. .1. F. Bitchie, who is playing very consistently, beat W. T. Harman, 2 up and 1 to play. There was a capital "go”' between H. B.' Lusk and B. ,B. Wood, Lusk eventually winning by 2 up. H. C. Smith, who is also showing capital form, put down H. P. Troutbeck easily. The contest between N. H. Fisher and H. D. Gillies was very close and exciting, Fisher winning 1 np. Another capital contest was that between G. Thorburn and J. O. Kettle, who were level at the 18th hole. Kettle won by 1 up at the 19th hole. One of the surprises of this round was the defeat-of J. Game Bidwill by W. Handyside. The young Wairarapa player showed capital form in the first, round of the Hawke’s Bay championship, aiid had also done fairly well since, but he was eff his play this afternoon to some extent, and Handyside' beat him 1 up. It is still difficult to say who is likely to be found fighting out the final with A. Duncan, but J. F. Ritchie,, 11. C. Smith, or N. H. Fisher. may be the runner-up for the championship. It seems certain that A. Duncan will be returned the winner.
