Nelson kicked oS. against the wind, and at once made for the Ramblers’ goal, but the defence cleared. Ramblers leftwing took the ball well up, centred, and Johnson scored with a good shot. This reverse woke the Nelson men up, and they made a determined attack on the Ramblers’ goal, and Charnley equalised with a low shot. Even play followed, hat good football was out of the question owing to the bad state of the ground and rain. A good combined effort by the Nelson forwards resulted in Frifth scoring, thus making , Nelson 2, Ramblers 1. This advantage the home team retained till half-time was called. Upon resuming, the Nelson men went away with a great rush, but a goal-kick was the only result. Ramblers then had their share of the play, and after a scramble. Waters scored, making the scores level. About twenty minutes from time a penalty-kick was given against the Ramblers. Gardiner was entrusted with the kick and scored the third goal for Nelson.
