ARRIVAL OF MAJOR TUSON,

Major Harry D. Tuson, .who was appointed during the Premiers visit to England to fill the vacant position on the Council of Defence, arnyed in Wellington yesterday by the Connthio. from Major Tueon, who will fill the position of adjutant and qnartermaator-genenU, and will be the second military member of the Council of Defence, belongs to the Manchester Regiment. He was bom in 1856, and is not only a smart and efficient officer, but a camparativoiy young man. Entering the army a a a lieutenant in the Border Regiment m 1886, lie served in the Bast Indies until 1889, and then went Home for three J00.T3. From 1893 to 1894 he was attached to the Egyptian army, and in 1897 he entered the Staff College as a student. Passing the Staff College, he served with his regiment in South Africa m 18991900,through the operations leading up to the relief of Ladysmith. He was present at Colenso, Spionkop, Tugela, and Pieter’s Hill, and returned Home m July, 1900, receiving. the Queen’s medal with five clasps. From 1901-5 Captain Tuson was engaged as adjutant- of volunteers, and in the latter year he obtained his majority. He holds a special certificate for the musketry course at Hythe, and has passed in the Persian, French, Russian, and Hindustani languages.
