KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON. September 10. Tho monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Council was held her© to-day. The Receiver of Land Revenue forwarded statement of “thirds" accrued to August 31st, amounting to .£2O 6s 3d. The Oroua County Council's Engineer notified that his estimate of tho Kairanga County’s share of the cost of forming Grove’s road was £267 10s. The mutter was left in the hands of the Mauguone Biding representatives, witn power to act. Mr \V. T. Wood, M.H.R., wrote stating that ho had interviewed the Minister of Public Works in reference to obtaining a grant towards the cost of repairing the road through the Manawatu Gorge, and that consideration would be given to tho request when the Estimates were framed. The Ranger reported that 93 head ot cattle and horses had been impounded during the month. In the course of the Engineers report reference was made to the f* <r that, while the Mangaone bridge approach at Bunnythorp© had iust been completed, there was a possible danger of erosion further up the creek, would probably cause damage should the scour extend to the upper portion of the works. In the meantime he did not consider anything could be done to prevent it. as the creek must get more waterwav. Up to the present time no willows had been planted at the Awahurl bridge, ae the silt upon which it was propoeed to plant was too soft to work. Messrs McLeod and Co. were granted permission to erect a eoap manufactory at Awapuni. The accounts passed for payment totalled .£387 18s sd.
