FLOUR DUTY.
(To the Editor rf N.Z. Times/') Sir, —Mr O'Began, free trader and single taxer, is again vexed with my 1 telling arguments, and is practically cor- | nered. Associated with milling and I wheat growing there are over ten thousand souls. In Cobden's time the duty, on wheat was its value, and there were no labour unions. What has free trade done for England but made it the dump-ing-ground for foreign countries? If we are going to have free trade, let us have it in everything, including labour. Will Mr O'Began explain why he has overlooked the exorbitant duty on boots, clothing, etc.—unless he is a believer in a Robinson Crusoe (the free trader's) costume. We challenge Mr O'Began to prove that we are directly or indirectly connected with any New, Zealand milling trust, association, or combine. Until he answers this challenge, let him remain silent. ' What has Mr O'Eegah at stake?—! am, etc., P. VIRTUE. Manager Northern Milling Co.
