Tho death is announced of the Rev. Dr Wilborforco, Bishop of Chichester, at the age of sixty-seven. Mr H. L. Michel was re-elected chairman of the Westland Education Board last evening, says a Press Association message. The Oamaru Presbytery has nominated the Rev. Mr Chisholm, of Roslyn, Dunedin, a b Moderator of the General Assembly for 1908. Mr John Forbes, senr., a -well-known resident of Normanby, died on Sunday, at the age of seventy-three years. He was a native of the Shetland Islands, and came to New Zealand many years ago. Mr D. Ryan, chief clerk in the local branch of the Huddart-Parker Steamship Company, was married yesterday to Miss Maud Kimbeli, daughter of Mr J. L. Kimbeli, of Wellington. The bride’s brother. Father Kimbeli, was the celebrant, assisted by Father Maloney. Mr J. Brenham was best man, and Mrs Taylor, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. At the Palmerston Hospital yesterday Mrs Xj. B. Morley, better known to many as Madame Morley, “the New Zealand Nightingale,” died after an illness of some duration. She was the widow of Signor Carmini Morley, leader of Lester’s Opera Company, and Subsequently of Miss May’s Opera Company, both of which visited New Zealand some time ago. A Press Association telegram from New Plymouth last evening states that Mr A. A. Pikett, contractor, was shockingly injured at his stone-crusher yesterday morning, and died in the hospital. Deceased was thirty-seven years of age. He leaves a widow and five children. He was a well-known contractor. The firm of Pikett and Wilkie recently completed a new block of Government buildings. Deceased was a good citizen. He recently took part in public affairs, in which he showed energy and enterprise. The following transfers and promotions have recently been made in the Bank of New Zealand: Mr A. J. Dixon, from New Plymouth, has been appointed accountant at Hunter ville oranch; Mr A. H. Wilson, from Paeroa, has been appointed accountant and assayer at Thames branch; Mr R. T. Bush, accountant at Thames, has been transferred to Paeroa as manager; Mr L. B. Grimstone, manager at Paeroa, becomes manager at Waitara, in succession to Mr R. J. Matthews, who takes lengthy leave of absence, preparatory to retiring on pension. Mr Matthews has been in the bank’s service for upwards of thirty-eight years. Mr H. W. Were, accountant at New Plymouth, has been appointed manager ox the Mangaweka branch of the bank.
