OUR CADETS
(Special to ! tho “N.Z. Times.”) CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. The Wellington battalions of public school cadets, who arrived at Lyttelton on Saturday, had a splendid trip. The sleeping arrangements on tho s.s. Te Anau were very satisfactory, and most of the boys proved good sailors. Breakfast was served at 6.45, 646 cadets being put through in relays of 110, in eighty minutes. The steamer officials unanimously agree that the Wellington cadets were the most orderly and best looked after of any battalions that havo travelled by the Te Anau. A delay at Lyttelton enabled Jlr \V. H. P. Barber, i1.11.1t., to purchase several tins of biscuits, which tho cadets much, appreoated. A parade of the three battalions was held 'at <1 p.m. on Saturday by Colonel Loveday, who gave a general explanation of the 'work to bo done. After tea guard was mounted, and general leave granted till 0 p.m. Soon after that hour The tired-out young soldiers were snugly in bed. On Sunday morning the "rouse" went at 6.30, “bathing parade" being held ten minutes later, it was a line sight to see the 600 lads taking a plungo in the Avon or washing on its banks. All the regular routine of tho camp has been carried out to-day, and the battalions are rapidly settling down in camp. General leave was granted from noon till 0 p.m., and to-morrow instructional drill in earnest will be commenced. Parents of the lads will bo gratified to have tho assurance of the officers that the health of all cadets is satisfactory, their appetites enormous, and food good, plentiful and well cooked.
