Mars was given a turn over the schooling hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday afternoon. His performance was not very encouraging, as after running down two or three of the fences he made a faulty jump at the hurdle at the entrance to the straight, and fell. His' rider. Howie, was badly shaken, but soon recovered. The hors© was unhurt. For the double. Great Northern Hurdles and Steeple, Roseshoot and Haydn are the popular selection—loo to 6 is now the best price. Roseshoot promises to start a strong favourite in tho Hurdles, 60 to 40 having been laid on his ability to finish first, second or third. OTAKI MAORI RACING CLUB. In connection therewith trains leave Te Aro at 10.10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Thorndon at 10.30 a.m. and 1.15 p.m. A train returns from Wallaeevill© at 5.30 p.m. Judging by the class of horses engaged, an interesting afternoon's sport is promised. In connection with the trotting meeting at Wallaceville to-day an additional passenger train, stopping at all stations will leave Upper -;Hiitt for To Aro at 5.15 p.m.
