Lady Ward will arrive from the South to-day. Mr R. Arm it has been appointed consul at Wellington for the Now Zealand League of Wheelmen. Mr James Hislop, architect, left for Dunedin by tho Maruroa hist evening. Ho will bo absent for about a week. Mr James Taylor, of Woodville, a former Mayor, and chairman of tbo Woodvillo School Committee for many years, intends leaving for tho Taranaki district. Mr M. J. Brookes, Wellington manager for tho Dresden Company, has returned to town, after spending a few weeks iin tbo Auckland and Rotorua districta. Tlio Rev Egorton Young, a distinguished Methodist minister of Canada, will arrive in Sydney during May, to commence a lecturing and preaching tour through the colonies. Tlio Hon E. Mitchelson lias been asked to again stand for the Mayoralty of Auckland. Ho has stated that ho will consider tbo matter, though ho had previously expressed a wish to retire. Tho Rev A. Y. G. Chandler has resigned tho pastorate of tho Cavorshain Baptist Church, Dunedin, and is relinquishing tho work of tho ministry to dovoto himself to journalistic pursuits. Mr Joseph Sowry, of Woodvillo, for fcwenty-soven years connected with borough work, first as chairman of tho Town Board, then as Mayor, and afterwards Inspector of Works, has resigned owing to ill-health. Mr G. M. Saltef, general manager of the Royal Insurance Company, who has boon in Wellington for tho past few days, loaves this morning for Auckland, to attend tho conference of insurance managers, to bo held there next week.

Mr John Rod, of Courtenay place, leaves on a trip to England next mouth. In all probability lie will return via America in order to visit tho Universal Exposition at St. Louis. Mr Rod has boon in somewhat indifferent health for some time past. Mr G. Laurenson, M.H.R. for Lyttelton, arrived in Wellington yesterday on a brief visit. Ho states that tho land campaign will shortly be renewed, Ashburton being tbo next town of attack. TSie campaigners have boon resting on their oars for a timo to enable the farmers to finish their harvesting. Mr G. H. Lambson, who had charge of tho salmon ova which was brought from America by the last San Francisco mail-boat to tho order of-tho Government, is a visitor to Wellington. Ha leaves for Auckland via the overland route on Monday, to catch tbo Sonoma, which leaves for San Francisco on tho 26th inst.

Mr John King, who for the past thirteen years has been connected with the manufacturing department of Messrs Kompbhomo, Prosser and Co., was entertained by a number of friends last evening, and made a very handsome and liscful presentation. Hr King leaves for Sydney to-day by the Victoria to, take up an appointment with the Chamberlain Medicine Company. . - At Napier Cathedral on Thursday Miss Denis Gordon Kettle, oldest daughter of IBIr N. Kettle, and a granddaughter of the late Major Von Tempsky, was married to Mr A*. C. PickardHawkins. of Southampton, England, lato of tho 11th Hussars, and only son of tho lato Rev C. S'. Hawkins, of Grafton. England, The young oouplo leave in March for England, where they take up their residence. The bride was attended by her sister. Miss Muriel Edwards, and was given a.way hy her father. Mr Edwards, junr.. brother of the bride, acted as best man.
