EVENING AMUSEMENTS.

ST. PETER’S CLUB. A highly successful vocal and drama'ie entertainment, under the auspices of St. Peter’s Club, in aid of the Building Fund, was given last night in St. Peter’s schoolroom, Gliuznee street, which wa.s crowded to the doors. Tho long and varied programme was divided into three parts. Tin entertainment began with a drums tit sketch entitled "Valentine,” _in which Messrs W. Styclio and S. Tingev appeared with credit; and conclude:!• with a comedy, "The_ Area Bello,” in which Messrs Harris, Malfcy Dodwell, Manic, Webb and Stevenson took part. An attractive feature was the thirty minutes with the Modem Merlins, ably sustained by those popular young conjurers. Messrs Liardct and Palethorpe. Mr it. Robertson maintained his reputation as a comic singer of no little merit. The plauntion songs by a quartette party were greeted with warm approval, while as soloists, Miss Hall (encored), Messrs W. John-stone-Brown, Roland Boot and If. l)odwoll proved themselves very acceptable.

' That Herr Albert Fricdcnthal has decided to give the public of Wellington another opportunity of bearing him play further selections from his extensive repertoire is a matter for congratulation. It is not often that a chance of hearing Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata is vouchsafed local lovers of music. Chopin will also figure in the programme, ami Greio’s celebrated concerto in A-minor with accompaniment on second piano by Mr Maughan Barnett will also bo heard a Les jlelebes’ exquisite ballet music, that popular number, “Gavotte de Corelli ’ (Friedenthal) and tho Wagner-Brassin “Ride of the TValkyries” appear in. the programme for to-morrow night at the Opera House. The Nelson Amateur Operatic Society commenced a three nights’ season of “ Dorothy ” on Tuesday evening with a very successful performance. The principal parts were sustained by Misses M. Pratt, H. Reeves, F. Wcbb-Bowen, Mrs Langtree, Messrs I'. Condell, J. Richards, F. K.idson. F. Shallcrass. L Levien and J. JT. Finney. Excellent scenery was painted for the production by Mr. Claude Whaite.

The social hall of the Working Men’s Club was well tilled last night, when a most enjoyable conceit was given in aid of the widow and orphans of the . late Mr M. V. Worth. Songs were given by Messrs Bloxam. C. Blake. A. Kerr, Hogg. Naylor. Sims. Ellison. Hargreaves. Kerr and Applegartfa. The majority of the senes were of the comic order. Mr Harry St. Clair was encored for his clog dance. An orchestra, under the baton cf Mr John McGlashan rendered throe selections in good style. The following London cablegram, dated the 12th instant, appears in Australian naners: —Mr Marry Lynch (of the wellknown Lynch Family of Bellringers) has engaged Sardon’s "Parisian Frolifinns” Company lor a )■ mr in the Australian felonies, opening in March. Ho has aho engaged Herr- Liston’s " Merry Partv,” now performing at the Crystal Palace, and this company will sail for Australia in November. Mr Lynch is also negotiating with the celebrated Mohawk Minstrels for an Australian tour.
