PRESS ASSOCIATION. (Received July 5, 0.55 a.m.) ACCIDENT TO A CATTLE TRAIN, MELBOURNE, Tuesday,
A cattle train was derailed near Wycliffc, on the Western line, through the breaking of a. rail. All the cattle trucks were smashed and 100 animals were killed. A passenger car attached to the train did not leave the rails, but its occupants had a marvellous escape. LONDON, Monday. Two goods trains came into collision at Winsford, in Cheshire, and an excursion train ran into the wreckage. About 50 carriages and’ wagons were involved in the treble smash. Luckily, none of the passengers or railway servants were killed, but a number were injured. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. At an inquest on a male illegitimate child named McDonald, the mother said she gave it a feeding bottle and returned in an hour, when it whs dead. The medical evidence was to the effect that the infant died of suffocation, but that there were no marks of violence. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
