VOLUNTEER NEWS.

The Institute Naval Cadets paraded lost- night under Lieutenants Browning and McKeever, and were exercised dn company drill by the non-commissioned oificers. The Kelburne and College Rifles mustered in force at>the Drillshed last evening under the respective commands of Captain Davis and Captain Brandon. The other officers present were Lieutenants Miller, Tuckey and Rose. After the corps had been inspected by Lieutenant-Colonel Newall the men underwent a course of musketry drill by Sergeant-Major Finn. During the parade of the Kelburne and College Rifles last evening LieutenantColonel Newall presented Captain Davis, of the Kelburne Rifles, with the New Zealand long-service medal, for twenty years’ service. In pinning the medal to Captain Davis’s left breast. Colonel Newall heartily congratulated ,'the recipient- and - hoped that he would long live to wear the honour. Before the Kelburne Rifles were dismissed Lieutenant Miller, on behalf of the corps, also congratulated Captain Davis. After they were dismissed the men gathered round and gave three hearty cheers for the captain. It is interesting to note that Captain Davis is the only company, officer in the Wellington Rifle Battalion who has the .honour of wearing;, the . long-service) medal.
