The Waihora, on arrival at headquarters, is .to be treated to a thorough overhaul, which will include the lengthening of the present funnel. The Orcti arrived from Wanganui yesterday morning, and is at present berthed at Jervois quay, where considerable alterations and repairs are to bo affected. The principal item in the work will bo the raising of the fore-deck 2ft. which operation will take some time. Her stern bulwark plates, ■which were greatly damaged by a collision with the barquontino St. Kilda, are also to be replaced, and the steamer is to be treated to a thorough overhaul generally. Before leaving port again she will bo placed on the Patent Slip to receive a cleaning and painting. The overhaul Is expected to occupy the greater part of the month. The Tutanekai camo off the Patent Slip on Saturday and dropped anchor off tho Railway Wharf, where the remainder of the cable on board will bo paid ashore and stored away for future use.

The Manaroa* which loft hero at 4.15 p.ra. on Saturday for Wanganui, met with a slight mishap to her machinery between Mana and Kapiti Islands, in consequence o( which it was thought prudent to put back to Wellington for repairs. She reached port under easy steam at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. Captain Mclntyre states that the necessary repairs will only take a few hours to complete and ho hopes to leave ioc Wanganui again this afternoon. The Wakata left Lyttelton at 10 p.m. on Friday and called at Port Robinson, Omiki and Kalkoura, arriving hero at 6.15 a.m. yesterday* The Te Anau brought 185 tons of cargo for Wellington from the South. She loaves to*day for Auckland, via Napier and Gisborne. Captain Robinson, late commander of the barquontino Handa Isle (which, weather permitting, will leave lor Kaipara to-day), has been appointed chief officer of the Pareora, in place of Me william Brown, who succeeds Mr Hunter as chief officer of the Tutanokai. The mate, Mr Aldwell, is to take the Handa Isle up to Kaipara, Captain Robinson still retaining his interest in tbe vessel. The work of repairing the cylinder of the auxiliary schooner Hercules’ oil engine is proving a more difficult task than was originally supposed. Messrs W, Cable and Co. were encrusted with the work, and as the cylinder was found to be ful! of daws they decided to insert a steel casing of an inch thick on the inside to make U thoroughly watertight. This was done, and t'iie parts put together on Saturday. Yesterday 'the engine was set going as the vessel lay alongside, the •wharf, and had been at work some two hours •whoa' the outside covering cracked. This will Involve further delay, and it Is problematical when, tbe little vessel will resume her voyage to Hokitika. The Hercules has been purchased by a syndicate at that port to take up the running of tbe recently-wrecked Waipara. Her cargo from Wellington wiH consist o! one ton of dynamite, 40 tons sheet-iron for a large water-race, and a quantity of earthenware, pipes. Tbe Rotomahana arrived from Lyttelton at.1D.55. a.m. yesterday after a smart trip. Her cargo consists of 118 tons and one horse. She loaves for thegouth again this afternoon* DAMAGE TO THE WBSTLANDIS CARQa By Telegraph>-~Preßß Association. Littelton, April 10. An examination of the cargo, of- the ship Westland, which put in here In distress on the voyaga from Sydney to Liverpool, shows that the oil* casks in the ’tween decks are badly damaged and much oil lost.
