Str>, —Thoro has been a considerable flutter in our charitable (?) do re-cotes of late, and during my diurnal peregrinations through the city I come across all kinds and conditions of humanity, and, judging by the casual conversations with them, there can be but one opinion, and that is, there must be a thorough reorganisation and a complete reformation, and that agrees with Mr Van. Staveren’s preamble, " That a Voluntary ladies’ committee should be set ,up tp report du these matters.” Sir, beyond doubt biir charitable institutions and hospital inspectors are fast developing into the immortal Dickens’ personification of Bumbledom ! These perfunctory investigations are devoid of the nourishing and sustaining milk of human kindness, as highly paid officials, in their comfortable jaunts around; unconsciously drift into callpttsneSs fly long association with tlieir office, and receiving th'e 'evil and good report of this one aiid that one, without giving the necessary investigation, that close attention and observation the vital subject requires. They themselves should have felt the sore pinches ’of privation, and the insufferable sorrows of cruel misfortune and deprivation, and then perhaps they could realise the agonies of some of these sensitive poor wretches. —1 am, &0..
