2d. Important developments have taken place in the Great Barrier Gold and Silver Company’s big lona reef, which runs from 30 to 35ft. Two parcel of ore sent from the mine to Melbourne and Ballarat for testing resulted as follows ; Melbourne —One ton, return 2oz 4dwt gold and 420 z silver. Ballarat —18owt; result, 2ozSiwt gold and 390 z silver. The mine is being worked on an option by an Otago syndicate. Mr John Williams, of Te Aroha, has rooeived word from headquarters that the machinery and appliances, comprising the Rev Joseph Campbell’s hyporphorio plant, have been shipped by the Now Zealand ©hipping Co.’a Matatua, and is expected to arrive in Auckland in three weeks. The Rev Mr Campbell states that the machinery will be in Te Aroha early in July, and the construction of the works will be begun without delay. Hope is reviving in mining circles at Te Aroha. * .
