MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

At the Alagistrate’s Court yesterday, before Lieutenant-Colonel AlcDonnell and Messrs E. W. Alills and W. AI. Haskell, J.’sP., four first offenders were punished for drunkenness. Lena Doreen was fined 40s or seven days in gaol. Henry Kigg, alias Way, was committed for trial on a charge of having entered tho warehouse of J, Jack and stolen therefrom six boxes of oigars, throe boxes of cigarettes and a mariner’s compass, valued at .£l7. William Oobley was sentenced to prison for two months on a charge of having stolen a quantity of clothing. For using obscene language, Patrick Daly was sent to gaol for seven days. Air Alartin, S.M., decided tho following cases ; Iu the case in which J. Hamilton and wife sued to recover from F. Hill the sum of £2O for injuries sustained by the female plaintiff through being thrown out of a cart, tho horse, it boingalleged, having been frightened by defendant, the plaintiffs were nonsuited with costs amounting to £3 14s. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £l4 in tho case H. Hodgson v. D. Owens, claim £l7, for work done. James Mitchell, charged with having received a gold ring knowing it to have been stolon, was sent to gaol for seven days. A. Levy was fined £3, and costs £1 Bs, for failing to allow one of his employees a half-holiday on June 20th. D. Lawlor was charged by tho Inspector of Factories with having failed to close his slop on a Wednesday afternoon. It appears that Messrs A. G. Taino and Co., auctioneers, wore holding a sale of defendant’s goods on the day iu question, but defendant took no part in the sale. Messrs Taino and Co, close their premises on Saturdays. One question involved was whether the sale was by retail or not. Mr Martin reserved his decision.
