New Zealand Times Office, Tuesday evening. Townsend and Paul report of their sale on Saturday last as follows; —There wore no heavy draughts and no really good hacks. Two very nice pomes weio ottered and withdrawn, tho prices ottered not reaching the owner's idea of value. A grand little light draught was sold at JRC 15s, and adother chestnut -1118. Wo quote heavy draughts *ls to .£2O; light, -£l2 to illO ; express and tradesmen’s horses, -CIO to Xl2. For the latter there is a demand. The usual quantity of crocks were sold from 20s to 30s. Wo are expecting a nice lot for our sale on Saturday next, and particulars will be duly advertised in this paper. Edwabdh and Mcßeatu state that the labour market is still dull, and that servants of all classes are numerous. A. G. TaiNE and Co. reportof the markets for the week ending August 3rd;—Fat sheep —Market fairly well supplied at present, and some very prime sheep have come in. Fat wethers up to 13s : medium, 11s to 12s; heavy owes, 10s to 11s. Store sheep—Good demand for good fresh wethers, but none offering. Sales —B.wob in lamb. 4 and G-tooth, up to 9s j hoggets, Gs to 7s for best, 3s Gd to 5s for medium. Fat cattle—Market Arming up ; best beef, 19s 1001 b; cow beef, about IBs. Store eattlo— Young cattle selling freely; weaners, 20s to 255; yearlings, 35s to 42s ; 2-yoar steers, £2 10s to £3 5s i 3-yoar steers, fresh, up to -C5 ; ordinary, X4to X 4 10s. Wool —Sales closed firm; nothing doing locally. Sheepskins, good demand. Sales—Best green crossbred, up to 4s Gd ; medium, 3s to 3s Gd j dry skins, 4d to 5d for best hoavy-woollod. Horse sale:—Only a very, small ,entry, mostly of an inferior description, consisting mostly of hacks and harness horses. Heavy draughts would have found buyers at good prices, but none of any consequence entered. The attendance was good, and the sales, although unimportant, wore fairly numerous. We sold harness horses, mostly inferior, up to X 8 ; aged horses and crocks X 3 to £4. Wo have two mobs of harness sorts coming forward for next month, and have also been advised of some good heavy draughts from the booth, to arrive for sale on the 17th, and also somq useful express horses'and medium draughts from Sydney, which will bo duly advertised. Quotations are about as follow: — Heavy, young sound draughts, up to X3O for best; medium,XlGto £29; express horses, £lO to ills. As spring advances the demand for all classes will increase. Labby and Co. report for the past week as under:—Wheat—Fair demand. Holders in the South are offering more freely, but prices meantime ahpw no quotable change. We quote prime milling 3s 7d to 3s 9d; medium to good, 3s Gd, f.o.b. Southern ports whole fowl wheat ad 3s 8d; broken fowl wheat, 3s 7d, ox stores. Wellington. Oats — ’.The market if anything is a shade easier, and several fair sized linos have been offered during the week from the South at a slight reduction on prices last reported. Locally the market is fairly firm at unaltered rates. We,quote prime short feed, 2a to 2s Id; Danish, Is lid to 2p ; dans, 2s 2d. Barley— Business is confined exclusively to feed linos, which are worth from 2s 3d to 2s Gd. Prime malting is worth • nominally 2s 9d. Maize— Values declined during the week, 2d per bushel. Best descriptions are worth 2s Bd. Pollard —Good enquiry at 90s per ton. Chaff —-Markot.firm. We have placed largo quantities during the week at our quotations. Prime bright heavy, 72s Gd to 755; medium to good, CDs to 655. Cow feed, 52s 6d to 55s per ton. Cocksfoot—No enquiry. We quote nominally prime machine dressed, 4Jd; bright heavy undressed, 4|d ; rough, undressed, 3}d per lb. Ryegrass—Without chapga. We quote prime bright machine dressed; 4a, 3d j medium to good, 3s Gdto 3s 9d; rough farmers’ lots, 2s Gd to 2s 9d.

,Aukaham and Williams report:—During the week our sales have boon hold at Levin, Golyton and Palmerston. Tho country 1 sales produced good entries, effective clearance being made readily, generally to free bidding, giving an appreciable tono and firmness to business. On Thursday at Palmerston the entry of cattle was practically ml. ' Sheep mustered freely. Suitable store Mothers wore scarce, and did not reach owners’ reserve. Sound lambs were firm. With tho exception of tho wethers wo cleared the entry. Levin.—Pat cows, £3 ; 18-month steers, £2 7s Cd; mixed yearlings, 325; 3-year steers, £3 IBs ; 2-tooth owes, 6s 3d ; brooding owes, 5s Gd ; store wethers, 7s Gd to 7s lOd ; wether lambs, 5s 7d. Golyton.— Cows and calves, £3 Is Gd; 2-yoar steers, £2 Ga; 18-month to 2-yenr, £2 4s; springing hoifers, £3 ; yearlings, 32s Cd ; weaners, 15s to 1.75. Lambs, 3s Gd, 4s Gd, 5s sd, 5s 9d, 6s Id, Gs Gd, Gs 10d, 7s 4d; fat ewes, 7s Gd; good quality store wethers; 9s; breeding owes, Gs 4d.
