Foildcn entered the army in 1843, became a colonel in 1809, and was made a C.SI.Q. in 1870 for his services in the Rod River expedition, where he commanded the Ist Battalion of the 60th Rifles. Ho represented Chorloy (North Lancashire) in the Conservative interest, having been returned unopposed at the List general election.] DR IIONEYMAN. London, May 21. The death is announced of Dr Honeyman of Auckland. [Dr lloueyman was well-known iu Auckland. Ho was son-in-law of. tho Rev David Brnco, and was a member of the former firm of Hay and,Honey man.] THE REV.FATHER DOWNEY. ... Auckland, Alay 21. The Rev Father Father’ Downey, of !?t. Benedict’s, Nowton, died to-night somewhat suddenly. Ho has been hero 20 years. Ho was latterly iu impaired health, lint officiated in tho church on Sunday last. [.Father Downey was priest in charge of St. Benedict’s parish from tho time of his arrival in the Colony up till a year or two ago, when failing health told upon him. Ho was one of tho most kindly and genial of men, and exceedingly popular.] The tram driver George Newman succumbed to his injuries iu the Hospital at 7 o’clock yesterday morning. Tho Coroner will hold an inquest at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The deceased was well known on the West Coast of tho South Island as a most experienced driver. Ho was at ono time in the Armed, Constabulary. Ho was the second son of the late Air Wm. Newman, an old Nelson identity. Tho deceased was well liked, and tho news of his untimely end will be received with regret by all who know him. Another old iMsidont, Mr Thos. Robinson, died at his residence, Riverslea, Avonside,’ Christchurch; on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was a brother of tho late Hon W. Robinson. He came out to South Australia iu 1848, and for some years was with his brother on the Hill River. Deceased came to New Zealand in 1873. - Mr W, T. Robinson, of Cheviot, is his eldest son, and of tho others Air F. -N. Robinson is manager ■■ of tho Blenheim branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Mr Herbert Robinson, of the Union Bank, Christchurch, and Air Edward Robinson, manager of tho Colonial Bank, Itangiora, while two of the other sons are engaged in farming on tho Cheviot estate. Captain J. B. M. Taylor, late of 7Cth Regiment, died at the residence of Alajor Lockett, Wanganui, on Monday. Tho deceased, who was 48 years of ago, served for many years in the Imperial Army with distinction.
