HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordlna'y monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. Present Councillors S. Lancaster (chair* man), H. Cook, J, VVakeham, C, W. Brown, F. Death, G. Brown and W. Jitlett. The Chairman statid that since last meet* ing be had, in company with several of the councillors and the Inspector of Wotks, visited the Pakuratab! bridge and the Silverstream breakwater damaged by the flood, and be recommended that the bridge should be lengthened. The Inspector of Works, in his report, stated that the addition to the bridge would cost from £270 to £2BO. He estimated the cost of repairing the damage to roads and bridges and culverts at £1246, exclusive of that portion of the county road fronting Mr Smith’s property at Horokiwi. Repairs to district roads would cost ££lo, but this estimate included the Junction bridge. £BO. A small bridge, costing about £l6, was required in the Paikakariki length. The Inspector asked for authority to raise 12 chains of the lower portion of the Ngah&u. ranga line 18iu higher than tho present level, and to a width of 18ft, as the portion in question was lower than the bed of the stream, and when the stream was high it took all the flood water. The cost would be between £6O and £7O. The report was adopted. A letter was received from Mr C. P. Powles, as agent for Miss Dalrymple, asking what stepi the council proposed to take with reference to obstructions on the public road at Paikakariki, and it was decided to reply that tbe council will take no further action in tbe matter. A letter was received from Mr J. Kilmister, of the Karorl Borough, applying for a portion of tho rates paid by him on condition that the Borough Council kept the road up to tbe and of tbe birough in repair. It was decided that an offer should be made to the council allowing them the sum of £7, being the amount'of district rated paid by Mr Kilmister, if they will undertake to expend it on Mr Kilmister’s road. Tbe special order, altering the number of councillors to be elected for the Karorl and Horokiwi ridings to one and two reapeo* lively, was continued. Tho clerk was in* structed to have the alteration gazetted. It was decided that a sum of £4O should be expended on the road leading to Mr Mo* Laugblm’s property, provided he contri* bated an equal amount in labour or money. MrF. Taylor was appointed roadman for tbe Obaciu Hoad, Mr J. Fatter waited on the council in reference to the road through his Native lease land from Ngabauranga road to Boro kiwi road, and it was decided to leave tbe matter in tbe hands of tbe chairman and Councillor Jillett to see as to the title of the road, and if satisfactory, to accept Mr Fofetfr’s offjr to fence the road on bo;h sides

It nu decided to authorise Mr Edwards to erect a gate at the end of the road lead* log to the old Muugaroa railway station. Accounts amounting to £731 8s Sd were passed for payment.
